CFC-Free Extraction

In 1989 the Montreal Protocol regulated the phasing out of ozone-depleting
substances
such as CFCs and HCFCs. As a consequence, oil-in-water testing
had to shift from the well-established IR techniques using CFC solvents to
more laborious methods, such as gravimetry or high-maintenance gas chromatography.
In 2001 the European IR standard DIN 38409-H18 was withdrawn
and in 2013 the ASTM committee removed the ASTM D3921 method after
having published, in 2011, a completely new IR method. This new standard,
ASTM D7678, brought back the benefits of IR measurement without the
drawbacks of the old methods. Instead of ozone depleting CFCs, the new
method advocates the use of cost-saving and readily available cyclo-
hexane as solvent
in the extraction process. With the ERACHECK and the
ASTM D7678 method the days of measurement techniques still using expensive
and hazardous CFC solvents are finally numbered.


Cutting-Edge QCL Technology

The ERACHECK uses an infrared Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL), which acts
as its very powerful light source. It was the combination of this high-tech
laser and the patented measurement assembly that made it possible in the
first place to use CFC-free solvents for measuring Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
(TPH)
as well as Total Oil and Grease (TOG). Using a QCL also
helped to miniaturize the device while increasing its overall measurement
performance.

Ease-of-Use in the Field

Sampling and extraction is done as known from established methods. At the push of a button ERACHECK measures the extracted sample and displays the result on the large full-color touch screen. With its rugged aluminum housing, a built-in industry-proven PC and an auto-switching power supply ERACHECK is the ideal device for on-site operation.

Specially designed cartridges remove water and polar substances (grease). They simplify the direct measurement of TPH according to ASTM D7678.

Unique Measurement Precision

Highest measurement precision of a wide measurement range

The ERACHECK shows linear behavior in the range from 0.5 to 2000 mg/L with a repeatability of 0.2 mg/L in the range from 0.5 to 10 mg/L. At the highest end of the concentration range the ERACHECK still delivers an excellent repeatability of 2 mg/L
or 0.1%.
In extensive field tests ERACHECK showed excellent correlation to gas chromatography (e.g. ISO 9377-2 OSPAR) and gravimetric (e.g. EPA 1664A) as well as infrared (e.g. ASTM D7066) methods.

Thanks to this remarkable measurement range in combination with the highest precision currently available the ERACHECK clearly outperforms its competitors on today’s market.

Fast & Easy Operation

All eralytics analyzers use an intuitive menu structure that is easy to navigate. Measurements are done fully automated.

The results are displayed immediately after the test on the large and userfriendly color touch screen. An internal memory holds the measurement results. For convenience, data can be directly saved to USB memory sticks for further processing or a thorough analysis. The data format is compatible with most PC spreadsheet programs, such as Microsoft© Excel. Customized print-out designs are available for easy direct printing.
